Alberta Association of Physiotherapy

Laylane Majana Pavao Messias Chagas

Bio:

I am a Registered Physiotherapist with more than 17 years of experience. I joined the CBI Health Team in 2015 and have practiced as Senior Physiotherapist in the complex occupational multidisciplinary rehabilitation services at CBI Health McKenzie – Red Deer location.

I have special interest in management of persistent pain, headache, neck strain, post-concussive symptoms, and vestibular disorders. I have grown as a manual therapist and later developed my practice further in psychologically informed Physiotherapy. I am passionate about sharing knowledge to equip our clinic’s team and to foster integrated care.

Relocating from England, I worked as a Chartered Physiotherapist in private practice for the NHS’s Spinal Care Pathway program. I completed her Bachelor in Physiotherapy at the Universidade Estadual de Londrina – Brazil and Masters of Science in Osteopathy and Manual Therapy at the Universidad Catolica San Anton – Spain. Additionally, I am certified in the Rééducation Posturale Globale – Souchard’s method – France. Most recently, I gained certification in Vestibular Rehabilitation by Emory University/APTA.

I have benefited from exploring different worldviews and cultures inside Physiotherapy through professional training in Brazil, different parts of Europe and North America. These experiences have allowed me to immerse in different methods of treatment that shaped a diverse “toolbox” that I carry in my clinical practice, which I believe has been a great asset in meeting the individual needs of each of my clients.
